FILM SHOW

Saturday 8th July 6-8pm Village Hall

For this year's film show we decided to stay with the popular local theme of last year. After looking at many alternatives the proposed programme is as follows:

• Will Hoon, Wirksworth film-maker and media-artist with a particular interest in local films, will show several of his short films and talk about his "Wirksworth Lights" project.
• "The Cromford & High Peak Railway, part 2 Memories of the High Peak" A fascinating and entertaining film made in 1997 with a lot of early footage and a commentary supplied by many well known local people - mainly ex-railway workers with the C&HPR.
  The film has been kindly lent to us by the Arkwright Society ( copies are on sale in their bookshop amongst many other titles relating to our industrial heritage).
• The famous but rarely shown "Youlgreave" film made in 1937. This is short - part of it having been lost in a fire including the opening credits and title. It is silent and strangely coloured due to ageing, but gives a fascinating glimpse of Derbyshire life 70 years ago. It includes footage of the Coronation of George VI and Youlgreave's celebrations.
• We may include some other items if there is time (and audience) left.

During our researches we were offered many suggestions for film and sources of local film. We are very grateful for this help and will be putting up full credits and other local film information, on the website.
